Make All Natural Coconut Cream

Bulk Coconut Cream without any additive is as scarce as hen’s teeth!

Make your own with this recipe.

1) Get Creamed Coconut (solid stuff).
2) When you get your jar, it will be in two layers, with a layer of oil at the top. You need to mix it together before using it. Put your jar in warm water, or the oven warmer drawer, till the cream layer softens, then mix together with a knife. Or even easier, once it’s soft enough to scrape out of the jar, put it all in a food processor, and zizz till smooth. Then pour it back into the jar.

We took 8 table spoons of mixed up creamed coconut, and put 2 1/4 cups of C Coconut Water into a pot. Then used a kitchen hand held whiz. The cream was whizzed until it was mixed.

3) Then we lightly warmed the creamed coconut and the coconut water in the pot, and stirred. Then we had thick, sweet coconut cream.

If you use 4 tablespoons of Creamed Coconut, you can use only 1 x C Coconut Water 330 ml TetraPak

Bulk Coconut Cream without additives is as scarce as hen’s teeth!

Today we got a question from a long standing customer. The customer was looking for Coconut Cream that has no additives. Others have been looking for it too, and so we thought the least we can do is to show you how to make Coconut Milk or Coconut Cream to taste, without any UHT treatment and without wasting an opportunity to add valuable nutrients into your diet.

We’ve applied the Taste and Rot Test so you don’t have to

The Coconut Cream you can buy in the supermarket is really cheap. Some of it is totally tasteless! And importantly, some of it won’t rot, when you leave it in the fridge with the lid open.

One brand we tried tasted like tinned water, but it was white and creamy. Another one didn’t taste very sweet at all. But that is just a symptom. Let’s look at the additives on a collection of coconut cream cans I have in the cupboard for research.

Coconut Cream

  • Woolworths Home Brand – Coconut Milk 80%, Water, Thickeners (412, 466) Emulsifier (435)
  • Kara UHT Natural Coconut Cream – Fresh Natural Coconut Extract 99.92%, Stabilizer E415, E412 & E407
  • Trident Coconut Cream – Coconut Cream 52%, Water, Stabiliser (466)
  • Family Choice Pacific Ocean Coconut Cream – Coconut Water, Stabilizer (466), Emulsifier (435), Pasteurised and Homogenised.
  • Ceres Organics Coconut Cream – Organic Coconut (min 65%), Water, Guar Gum

Coconut Milk

  • Celebes Organic Coconut Milk – Organic Coconut Milk and Guar Gum (E412)

Obviously we sell Ceres Organic Coconut Cream in both small cans and in a big tin. This is why we sell them.

1) They taste like Coconut.

2) They come separated between liquid and coconut oil when the content is below 25° C.

3) If you leave the lid off in the fridge, the content at the top grows mold. That is a sign of real life left in the can.

So that is shy we sell Ceres Coconut Cream. You’re welcome to buy them. But they are not without additive. The Coconut Cream we have listed above, often has water added as well. If you get Coconut Milk it is more likely to have water in it.

  1. Hi I did get registered!! I was a bit confused ;-). With the creamed coconut in the jar how long would it last once opened? Thanks

    1. Hi Liz,

Welocme! The Best Before Date for the current batch is March 2014.

Once opened, it will at least go to the BBD indicated and quite safely beyond, providing that it’s kept in light free condition, not subject to large temperature fluctuation.

You can refrigerate for longer life, but then you will have a practical issue of digging it out of the jar rock solid.

Personally, we’ve used it 12+ months beyond the BBD without any issues. It is a very stable product.

      Hope it helps.

      Warm regards
