The daily courier deadline is like walking a slack line between two moving trucks!
You get free postage*. We get a deadline that has to be met.
Proof that CourierPost** drivers don’t sleep!
An item was ordered, and paid for by email in Waiheke Island well after the courier cut off time for that item. It arrived in our inbox at 4:15 pm, in rural South Island, on Friday afternoon. We wrapped and dispatched the product at our gate which arrived in Waiheke Island (Auckland) 9:30am SATURDAY MORNING! (We now have an 11am courier deadline, in Te Anau).
Every weekday we try to stuff as many orders as we can into the daily CourierPost pick up at around 11:00 am. Of course, some of the large items go through another courier, which comes at 12 noon. The daily CourierPost deadline is a high-stress event. Sometimes I just stand back to say to my self, “It’s crazy!”
But my wife has determination, and we hate to miss the deadline. It looks somewhat like this video promoting Volvo trucks.
Our was deadline is 4:30 pm in Oxford. It is still 4:30 pm in Auckland.
Our official order cut off time in Te Anau is now 9:00 am.
In speaking about the 4:15pm order, my wife says we’ve packed orders on shorter deadlines before.
Back in Oxford, we’d had to transfer orders up the drive to the waiting courier van in huge winds before.
But the hardest part is the order that comes in at 4:25 pm on Friday, and we really wanted it in that courier van, at 4:30pm. (We can no longer achieve that feat).
In Te Anau: fancy a 45-minute drive chasing the courier?
So what happens if the order doesn’t make it the courier van on time?
Depending on when it is ready, and how many didn’t make it. We’ve got a couple of options.
1) Chase the courier van to the next stop, up to 78 kilometres (a 45-minute drive, without traffic).
2) Do nothing.
We have exercised option 1. One time I met the CourierPost driver on her way out of their depot, with a large load. She said she’ll take them through the depot again for me. Down here in Southland, the next stop after Te anau for the CourierPost van is Bracken Hall.
